What are the typical charges for wedding photography?

I am wondering because I have been doing photography for the last 2 years. So I am relatively new. But I have specialized in infant and child portraiture. I just recently was asked to do a wedding, and that wedding turned into another one. I am thinking about expanding my business to include wedding photography. What are some reasonable prices/packages for wedding photography?

It varies massively and it really is upto you and your own research and requirements on what you charge.

There are the £100 "craigslist" mob and there are the top end for who 10-15000 is not unusual.

Most tend to be in the middle area at around 1500-5000 for their packages.

Use google and have a look at some around your area and see what they are offering and then make your own mind up on what you are worth.

Additional equipment for the Canon XSi for professional photography?

I am just starting in photography. I currently have the Canon XSi and love it! Of course I have the standard 15-55mm lens as well as the 55-250mm lens. Of course I would love nothing more than to buy everything else I need at once, but that is too expensive. What lens would you recommend buying next? I mostly do child & family photography. I appreciate the help in advance!

50mm f1.4 prime. It’s great for portraits and costs only 140$Can new. That and is you dfon;t already have one yet, geta a Canon Speedlight 580EX II.

Depending on where you live there should be workshops during school holidays, or programs on the weekend or after school.

The best thing to do firstly (assuming you’ve already got a camera) is to just get out with your child and shoot everything and anything. Go somewhere you think great images can be captured (like the beach, or a mountain range… or even in the midst of the city, and just get them to take pictures… experiment with close ups and landscapes and angels.

Print off the photos and then both go back and examine them, discuss what is good and bad about the photos and what could have contributed to a better picture… what worked and what you can attribut that too.

You can always be taught how to use the functions of a camera, and you can also be taken through commonly used artistic approaches ie. rule of thirds, and compositioning techniques… But my suggesting is to firstly just get them out there, and their natural creativity will shine through.

If you have an SLR, go through the functions with them let them read the manual if they’re old enough, but perhaps put it on automatic until they know what they’re doing.

nonfiction novel involved with photography?

I love reading but since I am a photographer in my everday life I was wondering if there were any novels out there that told their story involved with photography. I am looking for a non-fiction or fiction novel about a person growing up as a child loving photography, or someone going after their dreams as an adult. I am not looking for an autobiography or anything like that.. just a good story to keep me occupied! Any suggestions?

Pardon me saying this, but there is no such thing as a non-fiction novel. A novel is fiction. Period. It just is. Non-fiction about someone’s life experience is a biography or an autobiography.

If you’re interested in fiction, there’s an interesting science fiction series, called "The Lensman" series — about a photographer, of course.

How much to charge for my photography services?

So, I have recently decided to put myself out there for photography services for parties/families/pets/children/etc. I have been shooting pictures for over four years now and I have all the equipment and skill to take nice shots. However, I do not want to charge too much and scare people off, especially since I’m new to the business. But, I do not want to rip myself off either, since the editing time takes so long. Any ideas? Thanks!

I have a friend that is professional and she gives them a CD with 10 pictures in color and B&W (but always give them some extra, I just say 10 in case it ends up being a really horrible photoshoot) and she started at $50 then a couple months later went to $75, then to $100, and so on. Now she charges $200 so, just go with what you feel like you should do. And the price changes depending on if she is shooting one person, or a family. If its a family she will do one close-up of each kid and a couple family pictures.
