My laptop kicked the bucket and my parents are just gonna buy me a new one instead of trying to fix my current one, I’m gonna need a new one for college anyway so wth.

Anyway, I’m going to an art college next year, hopefully to SCAD, and I’m going to go into commercial photography. So I need a computer that is good for photography/creating art.

I wanna get my bachelor’s degree in Commercial Photography. Where can I go after I get that? What kind of career opportunities may lie ahead?

Commercial/ Industrial photographer takes pictures of merchandise, exteriors and interiors of factories, and machinery both indoors and outdoors to be used for company brochures, annual reports, and in advertising and selling.

An commercial photographer’s main emphasis is on taking pictures for a single company or firm. The main intention is to make the company’s factory, machines or products look good.

They are mainly employed with commercial firms and work as per companies demand.

Price for images is often dependent upon how the images will be used and the ability of the photographer to capture exactly what the customer wants. It may be surprising, but the highest paid photographers specialize in weddings as they provide the most profit.

It’s that commercial featuring the Nick Drake song playing in the background, and those long orange streamers are unfurling from the top of the St. Louis Arch, Hoover Dam, and all of the buildings in Las Vegas. Then, they say that 97% of all Americans are covered by AT&T. It’s just that a tremendous amount of cloth would be required to pull this off if it was real, so I’m thinking it’s trick photography.

Some elitists do what they call "conceptual" photography, which is, of course, far superior in every way to us mere commercial photographers.

Portraits fall under the category of Commercial Photography, as does Photojournalism (or "editorial").

Which camera is best used for commercial photography shown in magazine or on Met-Art and Femjoy?

My budget limit is up to $1,500.00. I’m looking only for commercial, but handheld camera that will take professional photograph of anything that will be like in famous magazine, or someone like on Met-Art or Femjoy. Which Camera would it be? I’m considering Canon, Nikkon or other brand if available.

Yes, what you see in magazines and art exhibitions is often taken by cameras that cost similarly to luxury cars (into $30,000-50,000 range for a kit). But these cameras don’t take the pictures you see in magazines. As a matter of a fact no camera can take great pictures. Just like a great set of carpenters tools can not build a beautiful house, a set of nice pots and utensils won’t cook a gourmet dinner and the best available paintbrushes and paints won’t draw the state of the art pictures… All of these things, and cameras too – are the tools used by respective professionals!

If you don’t know what you’re doing, and from the way you asked the question, I have a feeling that you have never studied photography as an art – you won’t be able to create a masterpiece with even the best equipment out there. On the contrary, if you do know all about exposure and light, focal lengths apertures and shutter speeds, how to use depth of field and bokeh, know the rules of composition and how to create appropriate lightning for the scene, and how to use various equipment and props, how to pose the models and how to choose the right shooting conditions and of course have an eye for all that – then even some of the most basic cameras out there will produce great works of art in your hands.

As you’ve already been told – your budget pretty much limits you to Nikon D90 with the kit lens, which is probably not the camera that is used by most magazine photographers (although could be, because it is perfectly capable). But don’t expect it to make wonders for you. Remember, the success of a shot is about 80% dependent on the skill of the photographer, and only 20% (if not less) on the equipment, if not less! Perhaps you may want to buy a cheaper D5000 camera and invest the remainder of the money in taking at least a class or two in photography, or buying some good books and studying on your own? I have a feeling that this strategy will produce results that would be closer to what you want to achieve, than D90 and no studying at all.

OK, I need a commercial photography job or internship and some advice!?

OK so here is the deal:

I need help trying to find some sort of job or internship related to commercial photography. More specifically product photography, advertising, marketing, digital photography, web site photography etc.

I have 3 years experience. I worked with an event photographer doing retouching and for about 2 1/2 years I did web site photography for a wholesale handbag company. And recently I have been working with another wholesale company that works with apparel, but instead of working right there at their facility, I am doing it as a freelance type of job. I’m majoring in marketing right now, but I’m not sure that I’m being specific enough with the types of courses I’m taking.

Essentially, I want to continue doing free lance, but I’m not sure how to start it, or continue for that matter. I’m not too sure where to look or start looking. I would continue doing photography for the wholesalers in my area, but honestly, they don’t like to pay past a certain amount, but they want expressive quality since they usually need images for their web sites.

If anyone knows any sites where i can search for some jobs, internships, or agents related to this topic please let me know. Also, if there are specific careers that i can narrow my major to, that would be much appreciated as well!
