Check the terms of the stock companies.
Some require exclusivity and some don’t.

Stock photography for a school project?

I am doing a design project at high school, if I use stock photography that I’ve bought, is that ok? Or will the markers just think I took them off the internet? How can I prove I am licensed to use them? Also is it worth it to buy photography?

Please help me! I’m really stuck.
Would I get in trouble for using those microsoft clip art photography images? They’re free to download but are they meant to be used by anyone for anything?

Of course it will be OK to use stock images you have bought, that is what they are there for. Just be sure to reference the website(s) you purchased the images from when you hand in the assignment and include copies of emails/receipts . I imagine your lecturer will be impressed that you have gone the sensible and legal route of purchasing an image to use for your project rather than just grabbing one off Google (which 99% of kids these days would do).

As for the Microsoft clip art images?, I couldn’t tell you. I am guessing they are public domain, but I can’t tell you for sure.

just take pics for stock
after a few years you will have a library you can submit to pic agencies if you want, but it is better to market them yourself if possible

I have searched online and I want to stay away from Istockphotos.com it seems like a big joke. Do I just send emails to magazine companies I want to sell photos to? Or what? What does it take to start making money off photos? Don’t respond with, take a good photo. My question isn’t about the photo, it’s how to get my photo to different magazines to sell!

If you are in the UK then buy the book The Freelance Photographers Handbook, there is a similar tome in the US but can’t find my copy at the moment.
This lists most of the magazines on the market with contact details and what their basic requirements are.

Alternatively, go along to your nearest big magazine store with a pen and notepad and jot down the address and the name of the picture editors or art directors and write to them detailing what shots you have and asking where to send samples etc.

It is just a case of marketing yourself properly.

If you don’t want to use istock or other micro sites then look at the bigger or more specialist sites.

DreamsTime is where I have the most luck. The big ones are a PITA. You can only submit x number of photos (3-10, depending on the site) for review. iStock, for example, wants five approved photos. Harder than it sounds. You can only re-submit every couple of weeks. Took me three tries to have all five approved.

Tell you what, though – it makes you a better photographer!

I know the answer is probably "it depends", but I would love to hear from people who is selling or has sold stock photos online. Can you really earn a decent amount of money? And what is the best website to submit your photos?

Yes, you can

It’s not difficult, but it requires a bit of committment: if you build a growing online portfolio, you will earn proportionately; after a few months you can actually earn a decent amount of money

The first one on the list (shutterstock) is the best – well worth applying and passing the test;
istock is the second best, but requirements are higher, so it’s not a good candidate to join first;
Try also dreamstime

the last ones in the list are not actually worth the time unfortunately

Can you find me some fishing stock photography?

I am a graphic designer for a company that produces fishing maps. Currently I’m working on our marketing campaign and I’m going to need some pictures. The problem is I can’t find any good pictures. I’m looking for photos of people engaged in the activity of fishing. Can anyone help me out?

www.pbase.com has lots of photographers.I believe its all copy written but you can always contact the photographer for permission to use their stuff.

I’m looking for an affordable stock photography company that I can subscribe to. I’m kind of old school so I’m pretty particular about Internet companies–but if referred to a decent company I will look into it. Does anyone know of a such company that I can subscribe to that sells stock photography on disc?

They don’t sell cds but it is an affordable stock company, you can pay for one photo or more, you don’t need to buy a lot of credits that you don’t need

How do I photograph high contrast images like I see in stock photography?

I’m not looking for a Photoshop solution, I’m looking for a solution for photographing the original picture. Is there a way to take high contrast, sharp photos in-camera, or are they all Photoshopped?
