    I have a 450D and the live view is great for astrophotography. Only problem is that the camera itself doesn’t have enough gain for fainter subjects… but the 500D has 12,800ISO. Time for an upgrade : )

    The LV magnification makes it much easier to confirm the precise focus compared to using the viewfinder – and LV with the main sensor also eliminates any errors with the viewfinder not being perfectly calibrated.

    The technique is identical for all of Canon’s current DSLRs, incoluding the 50D. You can also use a film SLR, although obviously there won’t be live view for focusing! You’ll have to reply on the viewfinder alone.
