not enjoy portrait photography as much? I don’t really enjoy shooting portraits as much as weddings, landscape and animals. Aren’t shooting weddings similar to shooting portraits in some respects? Or do you consider weddings more candid (capture the moment) photography? But for some reason they are more enjoyable to me.

There are a few approaches to weddings..portrait and photo-journalistic are most common. Because I am a portrait photographer full time, when I approach a wedding it is in portrait style. I have learned to blend some photo journalism into the mix.

If you have found an approach you enjoy and the public wants, go for it!!!

You must be my polar opposite. I’m completely the opposite. You do all the weddings, I’ll do all the portraits, and we’ll split the landscape, nature, fine art and still lifes. Deal?

in wedding photography, you’re picturing happiness and hope, and warm relations. not so much portraits of specific people but the overall feel of the occasion. happiness gives people that natural glow, that’s why people like their holiday pics. as a photographer you’re stepping into a world that’s a happy place in itself for the moment and you just have to register it. as a portrait photographer you have to create the atmosphere that will give you and your subject the right feel for getting nice pics. in this respect, weddings have a lot in common with landscape and animals: everything is there already and needs nothing else to add, you just have to frame it, hardly anything can go wrong (except for technicalities of course). you could say: portraits are always fake in a way, and weddings/landscapes/animals are always real in a way.
